The Maine Learning Technology Initiative announces two teaching institutes entitled “Lenses of Learning - Preparing Students for College, Career and Citizenship in the 21st Century - A focus on literacy and numeracy.”
Both events will begin with an afternoon/evening registration session followed by a day and a half of in-depth learning and sharing sessions. College credit is available by special arrangement from the University of Missouri.
These sessions are designed for MLTI and MLTI/eMINTS teacher/leaders, technology integrators, librarians, CTE teachers, and administrators. The expanded sessions will allow greater opportunities for deeper learning and project development time.

Spring Institute: “Diving Into Data” and “Delving Deeply” Sessions Featuring Ruben Puentedura, Ph.D., Hippasus
A key presenter at the MLTI Fall Superintendent's meetings, Ruben Puentedura, Ph.D. returns to Maine, and brings with him a special focus on digital storytelling and educational gaming, and how to use both to rethink and redesign education. Ruben will make a special presentation during Monday lunch which will challenge us to look at our use of technology in education on a continuum from “Enhancing to Transforming.” Ruben will also be presenting during the Delving Deeply Sessions on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.
Monday Afternoon: Digital Storytelling
Monday's topic, Digital Storytelling, is the result of the combination of traditional modes of storytelling with digital technologies that allow for the seamless integration of images, sound, and video into the narrative. While it has traditionally been associated with cinema-like media, there are many other forms that it can take, ranging from Spartan simplicity to rich interactivity. Ruben will help us discover how Digital Storytelling projects are created and discuss the educational challenges they address.
Registration for the March 2007 session is $100 per person with contact hours available.
Food and Lodging is $TBA, based on double occupancy (single rooms are available at an additional cost). Meals include Sunday evening meal, Monday meals.
Please watch for future emails on how to register for these informative and productive institutes.
